5 Things to You Need to Look at Post ERP Deployment

For many, their ERP implementation ends when that first user logs in to run a report. Unfortunately, this isn’t quite the case. In fact, if you leave your ERP application to stand on its own after deployment you will likely find your solution to be a road block to the many benefits that can be gained. Successful implementation projects look beyond the initial installation and even past the first few updates and support calls. Instead, the smart ERP administrative team knows to look for after the users have started logging into the solution.

Deal with dirty data

After migrating data from a legacy solution into your new ERP application you may find that some of the information is inaccurate, incomplete or you may have duplicates. Some companies opt to deal with inconsistencies as they present themselves but it is always smart if you plan to allocate time and resources to scrubbing and fixing any data that may not be up to standards.

Check for updates

Enterprise software applications aren’t installed minutes after they are purchased. Odds are, the software you bought has changed since it was delivered, or even installed on your infrastructure. To ensure your code isn’t running with vulnerabilities or is in need of patching check to see if any updates have been released. If there has been, and they pass your testing, go ahead and have them installed.

Phase out legacy applications

Most likely, your ERP solution is put in place because the applications you relied on in the past weren’t performing. Unfortunately, some people fall back to these solutions because they are more familiar with them and the feel they can get things done more quickly. Sometimes, your processes allow for these applications to hang around as well. Take time to trim any legacy programs from your processes where you can. If you let the old applications linger around, you are going to slow the rate at which people become comfortable with the new ERP system.

Keep training

Some of your end-users aren’t going to understand everything during their initial training session, others are going to want to learn more about what your ERP software can do and of course there are always going to be new employees who need training. If possible, build a library of training materials in your company’s learning management system dedicated to your ERP system. If this is not possible, consider a train the trainer model and keep reference materials on hand for refreshers to keep a solid ERP training program in place.

Monitor progress

When you go live with your ERP application you are bound to find some tweaks and adjustments that take you off the original path. That is fine if they help move things along more smoothly. Keep a watchful eye over productivity and change management that deals with your ERP solution to see if you need to correct any processes or add features or tools you may not have originally planned for.

If you picked the right software, your ERP solution should continue to evolve with your company as long as you maintain the software, the processes it works with and the end-users themselves.
